We love to pick the oallieberries from Gizdich Ranch and then wander into the orchard for a favorite apple. I use yellow delicious or a nice crisp red apple. The dried cherries help to sweeten and thicken the crisp. Yum! Summer!

Ingredients
Filling
  • 3 Apples, cored and cubed
  • 3 cups of oallieberries or blackberries*
  • ½ cup dried montmorency cherries
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp butter cut in small pieces
Topping
  • ½ cube unsalted butter melted
  • ¼ cup organic whole wheat pastry flour
  • ¼ cup organic unbleached white flour
  • ½ cup organic rolled oats
  • pinch salt
  • ¼ cup sugar or local honey
  • ¼ cup walnuts or pecans chunked
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Mix the fruit together, stir in the flour and finally the honey. Butter an 8 x 8” glass dish. Pour the fruit mixture into the dish. Top with little pieces of butter.
  3. Mix together the flour, oats and salt.
  4. Stir in the melted butter until all ingredients are coated. Stir in the honey and finally the chunked nuts.
  5. Spread the topping over the fruit.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes until the fruit is bubbling, juices thickening and the topping is a golden brown.
  7. Serve warm, with or without vanilla ice cream. Serve for breakfast with a little plain yogurt.
Recipe Notes

*Oallieberries are best and can be picked or purchased at Gizdich Ranch in Watsonville. If they are unavailable try boysenberries and black berries.
